The proposed development lies within the Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council part of the county of Greater Manchester. The outfall is from the United Utilities Waste water
Treatment Works (WwTW) near Bolton which discharges from the Works into the River Irwell.

The proposal involves installing a 50kW Archimedes screw turbine adjacent to the existing outfall channel discharging into the river. A power house brick building will be built on top of the turbine which will contain the generators and ancillary electrical equipment.

The project aims to consume all of the electricity that is produced by the turbine onsite and adds 0.4 GWh of renewable electricity per annum moving the site closer to energy self sufficiency enabling reductions in carbon emissions.
